6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

The Romans believed that the month of September was looked after by the god, Vulcan, and therefore expected September to bring fires, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Luckily all we had to endure on the 21st was a little rain. But that didn’t keep over 100 golfers from playing in the KC CREW Sixth Annual Charity Golf Tournament held at The National Golf Club in Parkville, Missouri.

An early fall could be seen in the turning trees as 29 teams enjoyed the course’s breathtaking scenery. GPS systems in golf carts helped players navigate the challenging terrain for which The National is so well known. Frequent visits by the beverage cart attendant and detours to the Margarita Bar made the weather much more bearable.

An incredible group of more than 20 volunteers organized the event. Their efforts also included arranging for additional fund raising with chances to win an array of fantastic prizes. New this year was the Great Diamond Heist where participants walked away with at least a set of cubic zirconium earrings, and one lucky person won a real pair of diamond earrings valued at over $500.

KC CREW has had a history of philanthropy and service to the community from its inception in 1997. But it wasn’t until 2003 that events like this could be achieved. This is the sixth year KC CREW has hosted a charity golf event. Through the proceeds of our annual golf tournament (since 2004), we have donated nearly $56,000 to our charitable partner, Women’s Employment Network (WEN), and have been successful in increasing our donation each year:

Following play, golfers and non-golfers enjoyed networking in the dry clubhouse during the “Diamonds & The Duke” post golf event party and silent auction. Karli Ritter with the FOX4 Weather Team hosted the evening events, including announcing tournament champs and silent auction winners. Throughout the evening guests enjoyed a western themed barbeque buffet accompanied by musical performer, DREW6.
